Download BuddyMKR
Draw a Buddy, give it a voice and a minigame, and write it to a cube over USB-C. Free to download and use.
Windows installer
Version 0.4.0
Windows 10 or 11, 64 bit. Roughly 80 MB.
Also on the releases page, including past versions.
Installing
-
Run the installer. It lets you choose where BuddyMKR goes rather than deciding for you.
-
Windows will probably show a SmartScreen warning, because the installer is not code signed. Choose More info, then Run anyway.
-
Open BuddyMKR. You land in the Cubby, the shelf your Buddies live on, with room for ten.
-
Make a Buddy, or drag a
.buddyfile onto the shelf to import one. The docs walk through it.
About that warning
Code signing certificates cost money per year, and this is a free app, so the installer is unsigned. If you would rather not click through a SmartScreen prompt, use the portable build instead, it does not install anything.
What you need
| For | You need |
|---|---|
| Making Buddies | Windows 10 or 11, 64 bit. Nothing else. Everything is drawn, played and saved locally. |
| Flashing a cube | A BuddyCube and a USB-C data cable. Charge only cables will not enumerate, which is the usual reason a cube does not show up. |
| Importing art | Optional. Aseprite files import directly, with each frame tag becoming a clip. |
| Importing sound | Optional. A recording of a melody can be traced into editable tone steps. |
Something not working
If the app will not start, or your cube will not appear in the Flasher, tell us what happened and we will help.
